Welcome to Seacole!
Thank you for visiting our page!
Our value this term is 'friendship'. We focus on getting to know each other by playing games and exploring our new environment together. Our story of the term is 'Pumpkin Soup' which is a story about friendship and team work.
On a Monday and Wednesday we do PE - on Monday day we focus on gross motor skills and on Wednesday we focus on fine manipulative skills. On a Tuesday we do Forest School or cooking - during term 1 we will be looking for signs of autumn in the forest and cooking pumpkin soup.
Our value this term is 'generosity'. We introduced this value by reading 'The Smartest Giant in Town'. He was so generous that he gave away his new clothes to the animals that needed them. We are also reading The Little Red Hen. Our enquiry question is -'would The Little Red Hen have been generous if her friends had helped her?' We will be making bread and learning the story off by heart to help us with our writing. We will also be reading 'The Nativity'. In maths we are leaning about shape, space and measure - time, 2D and 3D shapes. In forest school, we are going to be making bird feeders and monitoring what happens.
This term our value is 'compassion', we will start the term by playing games that teach the children to be compassionate towards eachother. In phonics, we will continue to learn phase 3 digraphs (2 letters that make one sound) such as: 'sh' 'ch' 'ng'. In literacy, we will be reading; 'We are going on a Bear Hunt' and 'The Lion Hunt'. We will use these stories to make up our own stories and compare the different settings. We will also read 'The Magic Paint Brush', this is a story set in China and demonstrates compassion. The story will give us an insight to China and support our learning about about Chinese New Year. In maths, we will learn about positional language, weight and addition and subtraction up to 10. In the wider curriculum, we will be using the bee bots in IT which will support our postitional language. In Expressive Arts and Design, we will be acting out stories, exploring the different textures and medias from the stories, building caves and exploring paint using a 'magic paint brush!
